Sometimes, a new toy, a new technology , will focus you. The world is always trying to draw you out, so you always have to remember to go in.

Tech & Toys

The quote above by Russell Simmons reminds us of how Steve Johnston approached us here at The Rarest DAO. In our initial conversations, Steve Johnston encouraged us to always be aware of how new technology, more specifically how blockchain technology is changing the world. Steve, being surrounded by like-minded experts saw how NFTs are being used in all industries, including his… the toy industry.

Steve’s beloved  Hot Wheels released some very exciting NFTs of their own offering a way for collectors to buy and trade Hot Wheels, and showcase their inventory on social media.

The Toy Expert

On April 12, 2021 an episode of Pawn Stars, Steve Johnson is brought in to review a few limited edition Beanie Babies by McDonald’s. But this wasn’t his first time on Pawn Stars. He has offered his expertise on Pawn Stars on other occasions. He had been on an episode during a transaction involving a Jetsons lunchbox worth four hundred dollars.

Steve has brought bad news to some sellers at Pawn Stars, but he’s had done well over the years as the co-owner of Rogue Toys, a vintage collectible toy store company with a location across the street from Pawn Star’s Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas. After a few years of being neighbors, Steve was asked to be the toy expert for the show, ready for anything interesting that comes into the shop. So he comes in at times when the Pawn Stars team has questions about the value of something that was brought in.

Who is Steve Johnson beyond Pawn Stars?

Although Steve is a toy expert, he has more things that he’s an expert on. He’s very knowledgeable about more than just Wheels and vintage Barbie Dolls! As a kid Steve had been obsessed with Star Wars. He collected any Star Wars memorabilia he could get his hands on. The other things he collected were Transformers, Ghostbusters, Ninja Turtles, and G.I. Joe franchises, and other nostalgic memorabilia.

Ninja Turtles

Steve’s entrepreneurial mindset came when he was still in High School. He discovered that he could buy more than one Hot Wheels and resell them to buy more Hot Wheels. Today, his focus is on rare collectible toys that hold value.

This is why Steve was invited to be part of The Rarest DAO. Our organization needs experts like Steve that can spot those rare valuable assets, that we can all enjoy and benefit from collectively.
