Superman 1978 Cape Costume

Who’s the person behind this item?

The cape with the signature yellow “S” in Superman 1978 Cape Costume may be the most iconic superhero costume ever. Christopher Reeve wears the exact form of the outfit in the 1978 movie. While Yvonne Blake, an Academy Award-winning costume designer, is responsible for that specific appearance.

According to Variety, she began her career with Hammer Film Productions. A renowned British studio mainly known for gothic horror films. And, she rose fast through the ranks to become a full-fledged costume designer. Blake’s initial rendition has a more wholesome sense because of its timeless simplicity. Reeve’s trunk version is colorful and bold. It has the feel of clothing instead of armor. The character’s signature yellow “S” emblem is outlined in black on bright red cloth in the original cape.
