The Lou Gehrig’s 1922 Baseball Bat is one of the most valuable game-used bats in collecting lore. 

Lou Gehrig, the public also knows him as the Iron Horse, was an American professional baseball athlete born on June 19, 1903, in New York, New York, and died on June 2, 1941, in New York City. Lou, played first base for the New York Yankees from June 1, 1925, to May 2, 1939. Het set a record by appearing in 2,130 straight games, which he held until September 6, 1995, when Baltimore Orioles’ Cal Ripken broke it.

In the Yankees’ lineup, Jr. Gehrig was a modest, polite man overshadowed by his colorful comrade Babe Ruth, who he batted after.

Why is this item so rare?

According to sources and Ivy, When he joined the Yankees in 1924, Ivy sent Lou Gehrig’s 1922 Baseball Bat to Hillerich & Bradsby, which created Louisville Slugger bats

According to Ivy, this is an essential Gehrig bat in the making. It’s purposely sent to Gehrig to serve as a model for any future bats the firm made for him.

The bat is inscribed with April 22, 1925, when the firm began creating Louisville Sluggers for Gehrig.

The Lou Gehrig‘s 1922 Baseball Batgot was listed initially in the February lot with a reserve price of $950,000. The bat did not reach the reserve. Though the Heritage’s director of sports auctions, Chris Ivy, said, a private buyer came in until after the auction to buy it.
