Who used this camera?
George Lucas is an American kinematic director and filmmaker. He is also a scriptwriter who produced many of the most successful movies in history. In 1976, George Lucas used Star Wars Panavision PSR 200 35mm Camera to shoot the very first film of Star Wars.
Star Wars was a huge hit right away. It went on to become the most blockbuster film ever made. Lucas stretched his budget by shooting on soundstages in England, which was significantly less expensive than Hollywood. And it was the first of Lucas’s films to be made with a large budget. Several more science-fiction films got made as a result of their success. They used the same special-effects techniques pioneered by ILM that were effective in Star Wars.
What makes this camera unique?
This camera is the precise camera that George Lucas used to shoot the first Star Wars picture in 1976.
The camera bundle included: a Panaspeed motor, an Italian-made Elemack camera dolly, and a lens. It also has a matte box, follow focus, a Moy geared head, and two 1000-foot magazines. The camera has been completely refurbished and is now in good working order. Also, it has Panavision’s documentation authorizes its private ownership.
Owning a Panavision PSR-200 is rare. By the time it was released, there were only 29 Panavision PSR-200 cameras on the market. Moreover, it is only one of a few Panavision cameras privately held. Panavision typically rents rather than sells its equipment.
How much was it sold in the auction?
Star Wars Panavision PSR 200 35mm Camera is the second most expensive piece of Star Wars memorabilia ever sold. In 2011, Profiles in History sold it for a cool $625,000 at a Beverly Hills auction. Even a non-Star Wars camera kit is still sold for a second-hand collection up to $150,000.
