According to Sotheby’s, Dylan penned the lyrics on four pages of hotel stationery while staying at the Hotel Roger Smith in Washington, D.C., in mid-June 1965.

According to the Associated Press, the lyrics were sold to an anonymous bidder at auction house Sotheby’s. He declared the sale of a world record for a famous music manuscript.
The auction firm described the seller as a “longtime fan from California” who acquired the manuscript straight from Dylan, even though he was not named.
Recently, Dylan’s handwritten lyrics for “Like a Rolling Stone” got sold for $2 million at a Sotheby’s auction.
