Who is the creator of Flash Comics 1?
Flash is the name of several superheroes who appear in DC Comics’ American comic books. The pioneer Flash, constructed by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, debuted in Flash Comics 1 (January 1940/November 1939).
So in the story of Flash, Jay moved to New York after realizing the nature of his powers. He possesses super speed, can think, and runs extremely fast to take on a “normal” job as an assistant professor while beginning his life as the superhero Flash.
What makes this one special?
Flash Comics 1 was yet one more Golden Age superhero notable! They released Flash Comics in 1940, an anthology series with numerous stories per issue, including the titular superhero.
In a story by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert, the book featured the origin and first appearance of Jay Garrick, the original Flash. In addition, Johnny Thunderbolt, created by John Wentworth and Stan Aschmeier, made his debut, as did “Cliff” Cornwall, Special Agent, created by Sheldon Moldoff, and the Whip, created by Wentworth and George Storm. So that’s a crazy collection of first appearances! Add to that the fact that only 48 unrestored copies exist, and you have yourself a treasure.
What is the current market value of Flash Comics #1?
In 2010, this comic book sold for the second-highest price ever paid, amounting to $450,000. In addition, Heritage Auctions sold a 1940 photograph of the first appearance of the Flash for nearly half a million dollars.
The popularity and demand for this comic book are at an all-time high! But unfortunately, people who have this era’s comics are notoriously clingy to them. As a result, we don’t expect to see this title for sale anytime soon. However, when it does, it will not be cheap.
