What makes this item so rare?

The front of the grey flannel shirt bears the original “Yankees” team name.

The moniker has only been printed on the uniforms once in the franchise’s history, making this jersey extremely rare unusual.

His name “Ruth” was printed inside the collar of the road jersey made of gray flannel. It also retains all of the original buttons and the original drawstrings at the back of the garment.

How much is it worth today?

In 2019, the auction house said that a 1928-1930 Babe Ruth New York Yankees Jersey sold for $5.64 million at auction, making it the most expensive item of sports memorabilia ever sold.

The previous record was a $4.4 million Babe Ruth jersey from 1920.

At Yankee Stadium, Hunt Auctions sold a collection of memorabilia related to Ruth, also known as “The Sultan of Swat.” The record-breaking Babe Ruth’s Jersey was part of the collection.

A statement from the auction house claimed it had cooperated with the family of the baseball icon and had selected pieces from “elite third-party collections” for the vast display.
