An American mathematician, inventor, and game designer Richard Channing Garfield (born June 26, 1963), is the person behind this product.
Garfield invented the first collectible card game, Magic The Gathering. Other Companies created several imitations of Magic after its breakthrough in 1993. In addition to Magic, Garfield was responsible for the success of numerous game concepts.
Magic The Gathering (also known as Magic or MTG) was the first trading card version made in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast (now a subsidiary of Hasbro). As of December 2018, it had approximately 35 million players. The company produced over twenty billion Magic cards between 2008 and 2016, during which time it grew in popularity.

By selling for over $500,000, Black Lotus, the world’s most valuable Magic The Gathering card, has broken its auction record.
According to a report from the website Polygon, on eBay, a 1993 ‘Black Lotus’ Gem mint-graded card with signature by the card’s designer Christopher Rush has sold for $511,100.00. This worth is more than three times the value of a Black Lotus auctioned at $166,000 in 2019.
