Nintendo EAD developed and published Super Mario 64, a Nintendo 64 released in 1996. It’s the first 3D Super Mario game, and it’s a combination of traditional Mario gameplay, graphic style, and characters, as well as freedom of movement in a wide-open area based on polygons

This mustachioed Italian plumber essentially modeled on Nintendo’s real-life landlord was first imagined by designer Shigeru Miyamoto in 1981. Following his appearance in vibrant red overalls and armed with joyful catchphrases and impressive agility, Mario became one of the most well-known video game characters ever created.

What makes this item so rare?

According to Kotaku, Super Mario 64 ended on May 20, 1996; therefore, it’s simple to see why collectors want this item.

But what makes this item so rare is the differences between this and the other Super Mario 64 cartridges are apparent. The Wata scale has a 9.8/10 rating since it is in excellent condition. Based on the opinions of a group that claims to have worked in the gaming industry for over 60 years.

Keeping such Super Mario 64 version in such excellent condition over the years is a rare feat. There are only about five duplicates of such in a similar state left globally.

How much is it worth today?

Today’s worth of this rare item is $1.56 million; Heritage Auctions sold an unopened edition of the 1996 Nintendo 64 title Super Mario 64. There were 16 bids, according to the auction house, and the final amount for a single video game has never been higher. Although the vintage video game market has been thriving over the previous three years, particularly during the pandemic, seasoned collectors are astonished and perplexed by this pricing. 

When this item got auctioned off, it set a new record as the most priced video game ever sold.
