David Jon Gilmour CBE is a British composer, guitarist, and singer who was a founding member of the Pink Floyd rock band. He became a member of the band as a guitarist and co-lead vocalist in 1967.
David Gilmour’s Black Strat Guitar used to record a variety of songs. Besides that, it became one of the legendary guitars in history.
Why is this instrument so valuable?
David Gilmour of Pink Floyd sold 126 of his guitars for a record-breaking $21 million at a charity auction in New York on Thursday to help fight global warming.
And one item included in the auction is David Gilmour’s Black Strat Guitar, a 1969 Fender Stratocaster. He used this guitar to record Pink Floyd albums. Whereas Gilmour’s played “The Dark Side of the Moon,” “Wish You Were Here,” and “The Wall.”
How much is this instrument worth?
David Gilmour of Pink Floyd sold his ‘Black Strat’ guitar for a very generous charitable gift. One of Gilmour’s outstanding guitar collections. In a charity auction he launched in 2019, Gilmour sold his Strat for $3,975,00 together with many other instruments.
Initially projected that this guitar would cost between $100,000 and $150,000. Instead, it held the record for the most valuable guitar in the world until Kurt Cobain’s instrument surpassed it the following year.

Not only is there a new track for the most valuable guitar ever sold at auction. It’s an instrument with a solid connection to Pink Floyd’s legacy. Also, in the process, they raised about $4 million for charity.
Regardless, it’s still fantastic guitar, said its new owner, Jim Irsay. He also won the bid for the 1969 Martin D-35 acoustic guitar and a travel case used for “The Black Strat.”
